What is the John T. Riordan School for Professional Development?
The John T. Riordan School for Professional Development is a retail real estate training program for industry professionals offering a week of rigorous study that can lead to ICSC certification. Attendees will deepen their knowledge of retail property and shopping centers, learn from subject matter experts, share ideas and identify successful strategies alongside colleagues from around the world. Activities at the school are varied, ranging from formal lectures, class discussions and workshops to a barbeque dinner by the pool as well as a shopping center tour.

Attendees have the option of choosing to attend an institute within Level I or Level II within the choices of Management, Marketing, Leasing or Development Design and Construction. Level I institutes are designed for professionals with less than three years of industry experience seeking to achieve a comprehensive foundation and knowledge base for Level II. Level II institutes build upon the material taught in Level I and are geared to individuals with three or more years of industry experience, seeking to achieve a higher level of excellence.

Certificate of Participation Awarded
A certificate of participation is awarded to attendees who attend all classes for their institute. Each attendee must sign in each class to receive this certificate. Those who have completed the full week-long institute will receive a certificate of participation.

Professional Development That Leads to a Certification Designation
The John T. Riordan School for Professional Development's curriculum is designed to equip attendees with robust training to prepare for a certification designation in Management (CSM), Marketing (CMD), Leasing (CLS), or Development, Design & Construction (CDP) depending on their track of study.

Management I
Through this institute attendees will learn fundamental concepts to help manage a shopping center or retail space more efficiently while building on core fundamentals and concepts every manager should know and exercise.

Management II
Through this institute attendees will acquire advanced learning to help increase knowledge and prepare for more responsibilities as a shopping center professional.

Marketing I
Through this institute attendees will develop marketing fundamentals that are essential to the development of a marketing director's career in an every changing industry.

Marketing II
This institute focuses on developing the knowledge and skills that will help you increase retail sales, improve relationships with retailers and increase your value to your employer as a shopping center marketing professional.

Leasing I
Through this institute attendees will learn the fundamentals of merchandising as well as economics and leasing and specialty leasing strategies to effectively impact the income and retail productivity of center.

Leasing II
This institute will increase knowledge on leasing expertise in order to remerchandise centers and create greater value for the owner.

Development, Design and Construction I
Learn what it takes to make the vision a reality. In this institute attendees will learn the fundamental concepts on developing projects, creating innovative designs and managing the construction process from start to finish.

The Riordan Legacy

The ICSC John T. Riordan School for professional development honors John T. Riordan's legacy and his commitment to the cause of education and professional development in the shopping center industry. It was under the stewardship of John Riordan that the school for professional development grew in both size and stature. Today the role of faculty by industry practitioners at ICSC's educational institutes has become a highly coveted honor and the institutes' graduates are widely recognized as the "best of the best" in the retail. A special scholarship program named for him has been established by the ICSC educational Foundation for deserving students attending the ICSC John T. Riordan School for professional development.
